If you have been financially impacted due to COVID-19, the SD CARES Housing Assistance Program (SDCHAP) may provide temporary rental, mortgage, or utility assistance for South Dakota residents who:
- Owe past-due rent or utilities because they have experienced a particular loss due to COVID-19;
- Have incomes at or below 115% of AMI;
- Meet all program criteria; and
- Ensure a complete application.
Funding amount is based on need with a maximum of $1,500 per month. While the funding may not fully cover monthly rent, mortgage, or utility bill, it is intended to reduce amounts owed. Paper checks will be mailed directly to the person whom the bill is owed.
Online applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on December 18, 2020, to ensure checks are issued prior to the December 30, 2020 deadline. Lakota Funds can provide assistance to applicants in Oglala Lakota, Jackson and Bennett Counties.
