Welcome!
Lakota Funds plays a vital role in improving life for Oglala Lakota people by placing capital with new and growing businesses on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. We loaned over 4.7 million dollars since 1987 to over 350 people. And, in 2009 we loaned over $507,954 to sixteen new or growing businesses. Our Mission and Accomplishments.
Recently a study by five university economists said: “Lakota Funds has succeeded in raising real per capita income of Shannon County residents consistently and significantly throughout the 1987– 2006 study period.”
Even so, there are still only 13 businesses per 1000 reservation residents compared to 83 businesses per 1000 people in the rest of South Dakota. That means only 16% of the businesses in our communities to provide job opportunities and to provide goods and services. No wonder unemployment on the reservation is estimated to be over 80% and, while improving, the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation is still one of the poorestregions in the US. These statistics present the tremendous challenges and the tremendous opportunities for Lakota Funds, with your help, to make improvements in the local reservation economy.
