In our role with the South Dakota Native Homeownership Coalition, Lakota Funds is actively working to create homeownership opportunities for Native Americans throughout the state, and specifically for Native American veterans.
One of our first successes in this initiative was partnering with Mazaska Owecaso Otipi Financial to support George O’Rourke, an army veteran, on his path to homeownership. Due to lack of housing on the Pine Ridge Reservation, George had found himself living in a Veterans Administration shelter. We were able to come up with some innovative solutions to get George and his family into a home as soon as possible.
You can read more about George’s story on the Center for Indian Country Development blog.
